For years the humble 75- watt incandescent globe has played an invaluable role as controlled lighting has been widely used to stimulate bird growth and egg production. But rising power bills and the ban on the sale of inefficient incandescent globes have growers looking for more efficient forms of lighting.

President of the Victorian Farmers Federation Chicken Meat Group, Mike Shaw, said the industry was looking for production efficiencies right across the board including alternatives to incandescent lighting and power usage.

ANL Lighting understood that chicken farms have particular lighting requirements for their sheds. We also understood the difficult position farmers were being placed in by the Government’s ban on standard incandescent globes. For most businesses, the solution has been to simply convert all lighting to Compact Fluorescent Lamps, but it is vital for chicken farms to have dimmable lighting. ANL Lighting found a solution—The Micro-Brite CCFL.

ANL Lighting suggested this solution to the Victorian Farmers Federation who saw great success. Mike Shaw tested the Micro-Brite CCFL on his own farm and evaluated the globe for longevity, robustness and light output compared to other incandescent replacement options. He found Micro-Brite to be the clear and outstanding winner! Mike has now converted his farm to an energy efficient farm and uses our Micro-Brite lamp in all of his sheds.

After the success that Mike Shaw saw from using Micro-Brite Lamps, ANL Lighting decided to share this energy efficient lighting solution with all members of the Victorian Farmers Federation, the New South Wales Farmers Federation and the Queensland Farmers Federation. Now all members enjoy a special discounted rate on all Micro-Bite lamps to help them make their sheds energy efficient.

Several farms across the country contacted the ANL Lighting Projects department looking for a solution to their light fitting concerns. To keep up with the stringent hygiene standards in place at every Chicken Farm, farmers need light fittings that could be cleaned thoroughly without leaving water damage. ANL Lighting Projects suggested the use of T8 Weatherproof Battens with an IP rating of 66 so that both dust and powerful jets of water cannot enter the enclosure in harmful quantities.
